#metallica

If someone asks if you want to go to a Metallica concert - say "yes" even if it's at a place with horrible parking such as famous Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. Getting in and out was a whole adventure in itself, with all the fun of being stuck in a car for 30 something minutes just a hundred yards from the stadium and hiking for over 20 minutes to our car through a golf course in the dark. Yep... but any and all of that is nothing compared to what you get back from the band. Two hours of great music, non-stop. Literally!

You may not be a fan of Metallica at all, but you can't say they aren't one of the greatest bands of all time.

I have this theory that not any band or person can hold a show at a stadium. Yes, they can gather such an amount of people, but the question is, can you really hold it? Do you have enough charisma to perform two hours in front of all these people in the open space? Other venues such as sports arenas are different. They are closed, the cumulative energy from the crowd and performers stays in. Small places such as amphitheaters... are, well, small. But stadium with the capacity of 88,000+ people... you have to have the ability to "own the room". James has it for sure. Last night he did not just own the room - he owned the whole stadium and beyond, he owned the whole city.

I've been to a lot of different shows at different places. And Metallica is not my favorite band of all, but I can tell that the show was great. Awesome. Huge. Incredible. Solid. In between the songs James said, "We're still here, kicking ass!" Oh, yeah! They are. They are... them! Three and a half decades of performing is nothing for these guys. Lars added, "We're just getting started..." and I think he's right. A true rock-star never stops shining.

And I've got to say this, Metallica IS the loudest effing band in the world!
